Today’s cold brew coffee review is courtesy of KonaRed. This is the Original Cold Brew Coffee flavor.
Please note: KonaRed sent me samples of this cold brew coffee in exchange for a review. While I don’t want or think this will impact my review in any way, please be advised that I did not purchase this coffee. As a reminder, I never accept compensation to review a product.
KonaRed is a Hawaiian coffee company that specializes in ready-to-drink (RTD) coffees and juices that come from (partially, at least) Kona coffee cherries.
You see, most of the coffee we drink is simply the product of the 1 or 2 beans that come from inside the coffee cherry. However, KonaRed actually uses the coffee cherry in both its cold brew and “coffeeberry” juices.

In terms of taste and flavor, the Original Cold Brew was actually my least favorite of the three flavors that KonaRed sent me.
Now, this isn’t to say that the flavor is bad. In fact, I found it to be very drinkable despite its somewhat disappointing aroma. Clean, no lingering dryness in the aftertaste, this is definitely a cold brew coffee that can be consumed without cutting it with water.
What detracted from the taste, for me, was the lack of complexity in the flavor. It tasted like cold brew coffee, sure, but it didn’t taste like there was any coffee cherry juice in there.
Granted, I would not have known what the coffee cherry flavor actually was if I hadn’t tried KonaRed’s other offerings.
The per bottle price is $4, which is comparable to what other RTD cold brew drinks are going for. Unfortunately, KonaRed is only available in 6 and 12-pack cases online, so if you were looking to try-before-you-buy-6, you’ll have to find one locally. KonaRed has a product locator here.
Great ingredients. Simply coffee and water, no extra BS.
KonaRed is widely available from what I can tell. Target, The Vitamin Shoppe, and Costco are just a few of the places that carry KonaRed. Find it near you here.
So is the KonaRed Original Cold Brew right for you?
If you’re looking for a cold brew coffee with unique flavor, unfortunately this isn’t it. Yes, it tastes fine and I wouldn’t have any problem drinking it if I’m in a pinch for caffeine, but I wouldn’t choose the Original flavor over their Vanilla or Espresso flavors.
Still, this is a fine option if you can’t find some of the slightly better alternatives.
