The Review
The Filtron Cold Water Brewer may be simple, but don’t let it fool you. This coffeemaker may surprise you…so without further ado, let’s take a look at the pros and cons.
Please note: Although I am reviewing this top rated coffee maker, I have no experience using it. Instead, I summarize all of the most helpful reviews on this coffee maker from around the web. I do my best to make the reviews completely unbiased, making sure to cover both the positives and negatives of every coffee maker I review. Please note, manufacturing locations frequently change. Always check with the manufacturer to confirm whether a product is still USA made or not. At the time of publishing (7/12/13) the Filtron is USA made.
USA Made and BPA Free? Major points!
To find a coffee maker that meets both of these criteria these days is very rare. The fact that the Filtron boasts that it’s USA made and BPA free certainly makes it one of the more appealing cold brew coffee makers out there.
The Ratings
The Filtron Cold Water Coffee Concentrate Brewer doesn’t have many downsides, making it an excellent choice for most coffee drinkers.
The Price
At $40 this machine is a little overpriced considering it’s made almost entirely of plastic. Even so, the quality of the coffee it brews makes up for it.
Score: 3 stars
The Coffee Maker Quality
This maker is made mostly of strong plastic except for the rubber stoppers that come with it, and it’s woolen filter. Considering what it’s made of, the coffee maker’s overall quality is actually quite good.
Score: 4.5 stars
Coffee Quality
Most people that purchase the Filtron enjoy the naturally sweet coffee that comes out, though some complain that the coffee gets weaker as time goes by. Still, with coffee concentrate that can last for up to two weeks, this brewer has a lot going for it in the coffee quality department.
Score: 4 stars
Ease of Use
The Filtron is very easy to use. Just pour the water into the filter with the coffee overnight, then wait for it to drip into the carafe. You can use the Filtron to make any iced coffee you like.
Score: 5 stars
Cleaning Ease
The components such as the carafe and the container are very easy to clean, and they won’t affect the taste of your coffee.
Score: 5 stars
Durability
The plastic is strong enough not to break or melt, and there’s a 1-year warranty just in case something should go wrong. There are no large scale defects recorded by consumers, though replacement parts are very hard to come by should you need them.
Score: 4.5 stars
Appearance
Although it does look fairly nice, there’s nothing too special appearance-wise when it comes to this brewer. If good-looking cold brew coffee makers are important to you, you might want to check out the Hario Mizudashi.
Score: 3 stars
Brew Speed
It takes 12-24 hours for the coffee to steep in the filter, which is actually a respectable time for cold brew coffee.
Score: 3 stars
Versatility
Nothing fancy here.
Score: 2 stars
Some final thoughts
Despite it’s price and difficult-to-find replacement parts, the Filtron Cold Water Coffee Concentrate Brewer is a perfect option for iced coffee lovers, but might not be for all coffee aficionados.
This coffee maker may be for you if:
- You prefer or need less acidic coffee
- You want a cold brewer that’s easy to use
- You love a latte in the morning but hate paying coffee shop prices for them
The Filtron might not be for you if:
- You prefer your coffee hot, strong, and black
- You don’t feel like waiting 12 hours for your coffee to brew
- You want something with a longer warranty in case something goes wrong
