Cuisinart DCC-2650 Brew Central 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Review

Table of Contents

While Cuisinart may not be best known specifically for its coffeemakers, this brand is synonymous with quality kitchen appliances. There is no reason to expect anything but quality from this household name. As with any brand though, some products are hits and some are misses. Overall the DCC-2650 Brew Central is certainly closer to a hit than a miss. It does well with overall scoring and reviews.

The Good

Keep in mind that this product utilizes the Extreme Brew technology, which promises to deliver that first morning cup of java 25% faster, as well as more efficiently than other products. Unless you have used other models of Cuisinart coffeemakers to compare it to, it is difficult to determine if there is a noticeable difference. Most feedback seems to express some noticeable improvement compared to past models and some of the competition as well.

Here are some other pros for this coffeemaker:

  • It features a good sized 12-cup carafe.
  • The adjustable carafe temperature controls range from low, medium to high.
  • Brew Pause is a great way to grab a cup before waiting for the brewing to be completed.
  • The carafe design is well thought out with an ergonomic handle and knuckle guard to help prevent burns.
  • The option of choosing whether your brew is regular or bold strength is also a great feature.

Overall, the Cuisinart DCC-2650 Brew Central is a coffeemaker that actually takes different users’ tastes and preferences into account.

The Bad

While some of what makes it into a review is based on individual experience, it is always a good idea to be aware of what some consumers may not have liked about a product. So, consider some of these concerns:

  • Compared to some other brands, the feedback is that this model looks and feels like a cheaper or at least less than superior quality.
  • The brew strength selector may be a great option, but only if the difference is noticeable and many feel it isn’t.
  • The price on this model is slightly higher than the model considered a step down, yet some consumers aren’t sure there is any added value for the additional cost.

The Ratings

Although this coffee maker has its advantages, it also has its disadvantages. Let’s break down each of the ratings one at a time.

The Price

The DCC-2650 is moderately priced. Yet the value of the coffee maker seems to be equal to or hardly greater than many of the less expensive Cuisinart models.

The Coffee Quality

The DCC-2650 doesn’t make particularly hot coffee. One reviewer ran a test to find that the temperature of the coffee immediately after brewing was 172˚F, where the optimal water temperature alone should be in the range of 195˚-205˚F. Anything under 185˚ after brewing is too low.

Aside from temperature, there were not an overwhelming number of remarks on the coffee’s quality being good or bad.

Score: 3 stars

The Coffee Maker Quality

While this Cuisinart model has a higher price tag than many of the comparable models by this brand, its quality level does not seem to match. With a less than ideal brew temperature and a brew time of about 12 minutes, this coffee maker’s quality is definitely diminished.

Score: 3 stars

Ease of Use

Cuisinart coffee makers are well designed when it comes to usability. The DCC-2650 is no exception.

Score: 5 stars

 Cleaning Ease

This machine is just as easy to clean as it is to use. No problems in this department.

Score: 5 stars

With a few reports of broke-down machines, this isn’t the most durable coffee maker out there. But it isn’t bad either.

Score: 3 stars

I think most people would agree that stainless steel looks better than cheap plastic, which is why this machine is aesthetically pleasing. We have to subtract half a point for the “Extreme Brew” label under the Cuisinart logo though.

Score: 4.5 stars

Brew Speed

Reports of 5-12 minute brew times seems to be the consensus with this top rated coffee maker. This is decent, but definitely not the quickest of the comparable machines we’ve reviewed.

Score: 3.5 stars

Pause and serve. Brew strength selector. Hot plate temperature adjustment. Programmable. This is a versatile coffee maker, just as most Cuisinart coffee makers tend to be.

Score: 5 stars

The Bottom Line

There has been a higher than usual number of claims from consumers having to return the first model they purchased. Also, those who may be considered “coffee snobs” or just those who are bit more serious coffee connoisseurs may feel other brands are more qualified to deliver an appliance that’s sole purpose is to deliver exceptional coffee.

For those who want a programmable coffeemaker that can be set up to 24 hours ahead and plan to use it on a daily basis, this is a good contender. The taste seems to deliver, and the options for customizing the temperature and boldness are nice to have, even if some people claim there is no real difference. Also this may be lacking the style some people like to have in their kitchen, so keep this in mind as well.
